Mistakes

In episode two in the nightclub, after Visage have performed "Fade to Grey," their lead singer Steve Strange says, "I hope you enjoyed our new single, 'Fade to Grey.'" "Fade to Grey" was in fact a chart hit in the Autumn of 1980, so would have been old news in the Summer of 1981. See more...

Trivia

In Episode 1 Series 1, in the opening scenes, Alex drives past a building where we see a man apparently ready to jump off the roof [probably intended as a reference to the final episode of "Life On Mars"]. However, it is not a person but a statue. In July 2007, several of artist Anthony Gormley's "Naked Man" statues were placed randomly around London. The "Sam" figure on the building was one of them. This figure was placed on top of the Hayward Gallery in the Southbank Centre. See more...

Comments made in brackets are corrections from other visitors. As such, any aggressive/abusive corrections (and I get quite a few) written as if they're comments I've made myself will be ignored. To submit your own corrections for mistakes, just click the edit icon under an entry, then choose "correct entry". Some entries have "duplicated entry" after them - these are entries which were already listed on the main page, but were submitted again. I occasionally leave these online for a while, just in case they were moved in error, so don't worry about pointing them out to me.

Entry Gene Hunt's car is a red Audi quattro - with right hand drive. The show is set in 1981 - but the Audi quattro was manufactured in left hand drive only until October 1982. [Already corrected.]
Entry Gene Hunt's red Audi quattro was a very exclusive and expensive car in 1981. The price for a new Audi quattro in 1981 was £14,664.00. That's more (at the time) than a Jaguar XJS or Mercedes SL. How could Gene Hunt afford such an expensive car on a DCI's salary? [This is a question, not a mistake. Please post in that section.]
Entry After Alex Drake is shot in the head, she seems to travel back in time to 1981 (that is the show's entire premise). One of the first clues Alex gets about being in 1981 is seeing a wall covered in posters advertising the single "Prince Charming" by Adam & The Ants. However, the rest of this episode is dated between 1st to 21st July 1981, and "Prince Charming" was not released until September 12th 1981. [Record companies back in the 80's would advertise singles well in advance of their actual release date, there is nothing strange about the poster being up that early before the singles release.]
Updated recently In episode 2, Alex Drake and the property developer Moore go to the Blitz club in Covent Garden, London. This club is well documented as having a very strict dress code with reports of people being turned away for very obscure reasons. Even "making an effort" wouldn't have been enough to gain entry. Everyone in the club, except Alex Drake and Moore, was "dressed up" in what came to be called "New Romantic" outfits, including two (off duty) members of Alex's team. It would've been impossible for Alex Drake or Moore to have entered the club wearing the "normal" clothes they had been wearing in the previous scene in the wine bar. [Moore is very rich and important. Thus, he could bribe his way in.]
Entry When Alex leaves the ladies - after chasing the mysterious clown figure - "Fade to Grey" by Visage comes to an end and Steve Strange (lead singer of Visage) can be heard in the background saying, "Hope you enjoyed our new single". The episode is set in the same week as the Royal Wedding (21st-29th July). However, "Fade to Grey" had charted in the top 40 @ No. 33 on the 17th January 1981 - six months earlier. [It's possible that there was technical mistake regarding the date on Gene's IBM Model 5150 computer, and that Alex had to use another source (such has a newspaper) to verify the actual date. My parents used to have an old IBM Computer similar to that, and I remember (small) mistakes like that did occur from time to time on theirs.]
Entry DCI Gene Hunt drives a red Audi quattro in this series, which is set in 1981. However, he is driving a right hand drive Audi quattro. Audi quattros were only available in left hand drive until September 1982. [If we follow Alex's reasoning (that this is all in her imagination), & we've no reason to believe otherwise as yet, then this is due to Alex misremembering things & is a character mistake at best.]
