Dr. Cox: Let me ask you a quick question: are you trying to make my head explode? Because you have no idea just how frustrating it is working your ass off trying to inflate a tiny little balloon inside somebody's clogged artery when all that person has to do, really is - oh, I don't know - go for a walk in the morning or choke down a fresh green salad. And you come back here looking like that? And, I know here, I know I'm supposed to be Dr. Give-A-Crap, but you wanna hear the God's honest truth? And this is a fact: you are what you eat. And you clearly went out and devoured a big fat guy, didn't ya?

Across whole show

Entry Ben Sullivan, Dr. Cox's best friend and brother-in-law, loves his camera and takes pictures everywhere he goes. Brendan Fraser, who plays Ben, has a great interest for photography in real life.
Entry The picture of the lady in Ted's office is his real-life mother.
Entry The janitor's nametag actually says "Janitor" emphasising the mystery surrounding his name.

My Sacrificial Clam (series 1)

Entry This episode features a group of doctors played by Ed Begley Jr., Eric Laneuville, William Daniels, and Stephen Furst, all of whom had recurring roles on St. Elsewhere, another medical show.

My Tuscaloosa Heart (series 1)

Entry When JD has the flashback of him walking in on his parents in bed, the voice of his father telling him to get out was provided by the actor who plays Dr Cox.

Pilot (series 1)

Entry JD's sitcom fantasy takes place on the set of My Wife and Kids.

All of series 1 (series 1)

Entry The initial concept for the janitor was that he was only in J.D.'s imagination. If you watch the early episodes, the janitor doesn't interact with any of the other characters. The idea was eventually abandoned because the character became too popular.

My First Step (series 2)

Entry In "My First Step", when J.D. is talking to his dad - played by John Ritter - when he was younger, the set they used was the one for 8 Simple Rules... For Dating My Teenage Daughter, in which Ritter plays the dad.

My Big Brother (series 2)

Entry I think it's this episode when Dr Cox refers to one patient as a "G.O.M.E.R." This is an actual medical term which stands for "get outa' my emergency room."

My Screw Up (series 3)

Entry This episode pays homage to The Sixth Sense in the way that Dr. Cox sees Ben, but no-one else does. The audience doesn't know this but they do drop a clue. Dr. Cox asks Ben, "Are you still doing that camera thing?" to which Ben replies, "Till the day I die." And after J.D. tells Dr. Cox that the patient died, Ben no longer has his camera.

My Friend the Doctor (series 3)

Entry The shot of the car driving off the bridge was actually taken from the Tom Cruise film Vanilla Sky, as mentioned in the director's commentary.

My Brother, Where Art Thou? (series 3)

Entry When we see the inside of Ted's office there is a keyboard but no monitor or computer. Probably to show Ted has no importance in the hospital.

My Faith in Humanity (series 4)

Entry JD and Turk arrange the schedules so Dr. Turner and Dr. Hooch are working together. Dr. Turner is played by Jim Hanks, brother of Tom Hanks, who starred in Turner & Hooch.

My Unicorn (series 4)

Entry The father needing a kidney and the son trying to sell him his in this episode are played by real life father and son John Bennet Perry and Matthew Perry.
Entry The scene in which Matthew Perry chases JD with a remote control plane is a play on the famous Alfred Hitchcock movie North by Northwest, in which Cary Grant is chased through a field by a biplane.

My Cake (series 4)

Entry In this episode JD learns his father's passed away. JD's dad was played by John Ritter, who died in September 2003. The episode is dedicated "To our friend, John Ritter".
