Mistakes

During this scene Joey is running from the wedding to find Pacey. There is a young couple dressed in light blue, standing on the left side of the scene. The man appears to turn his head and see Katie Holmes running towards them, and puts his arm around the woman next to him and directs her across the grass over to the right. They both sort of suddenly run over to the right in order to clear the way for Katie to keep running straight through the area. It's obvious they moved intentionally so as to get out of her way, knowing the actress was about to run by them. See more...

Trivia

Pacey talks about Emilio Estevez and the "great, cool duck movies he was in", those duck movies being "Champions", "D2 - the Mighty Ducks" and "D3". Joshua Jackson, who plays Pacey, played Charlie in that trilogy. See more...

Show season: Whole show  1  2  3  4  5  6  All

Across whole show

Entry In the earlier episodes you see the school sign many times which shows, Capeside, Home of the Wildcats. In Season 3, as Mitch takes over as head football coach, the school mascot is the Minutemen. [During the entire season 2, the school sign doesn't appear to have the "Home of the Wildcats" anymore. Also, there is a small insignia at the bottom - a blue tri-corner hat, representative of what Minutemen would wear. They must have made the switch during season 2.]
Entry In the first series, Joey's sister Bessie has a baby boy, (Alexander) with an African American, Bodie. Here the baby is appropriately darker skinned. In the finale, as Dawson and Joey are reminiscing on the bench, both their siblings are playing and climb up the ladder and Alexander is Caucasian. Plus Dawson's mum didn't have her baby until a much later season, but here they are look the same age. [Alexander is definitely not caucasian in the final episode. His skin is much darker than Lilly's and his hair is dark and curly. As for the age, Alexander might look younger than he is and Lilly older than she is. Alexander does appear to be older though.]

Roadtrip (aka In the Company of Men) (series 1)

Entry The girl Dawson talks to at the bar is named Nina and says "If you ask me where Pinta and Santa Maria are I'm out of here". The ship that sailed with Columbus was named Niña, not Nina. [There are still people who pronounce it Nina.]

Dance (aka Dirty Dancing) (series 1)

Entry When Dawson and Joey are walking home from the dance, Joey tells Dawson that they should stay home and watch movies on the next dance night, because "The remote on the rewind of life does not work." She means, of course that "The rewind on the remote of life does not work." Katie Holmes actually starts laughing at herself, but the scene goes on anyway. [This is a character mistake.]

Pilot (aka Emotions in Motion) (series 1)

Entry In the scene after school when Dawson cycles up beside Joey to ask her to go to the cinema with him, Jen and Pacey, he's begging her to go but by mistake calls her Jen instead of Joey. [No he doesn't.]

Reunited (series 2)

Entry When Dawson and Joey enter the French restaurant, they discover that Dawson's father has used the reservation that Dawson made weeks ago under the name "Leery". The man at the restaurant tells Dawson that 'he didn't realize there were two Leery parties'. But this situation doesn't make logical sense. Dawson's father came in first, without a reservation and would have known the table being reserved under his last name was not for him, since he hadn't made the reservation himself. So why would he have rudely taken his son's reservation? The father would have had to have mentioned his last name, or he wouldn't have been seated at a table reserved for the "Leery party". So he must have known he was using someone else's reservation (it could have been his wife's even, still using her married name), which wasn't something the character would normally do. And he couldn't have made his own reservation, because then there would have been no problem seating Dawson and Joey with the second Leery reservation. It doesn't seem likely Dawson's father would take his son's table reservation under the circumstances. [They both called to make a reservation, the restaurant thought that "a table for two, reserved at Leery's name", was the same both times.]

A Perfect Wedding (series 2)

Entry During the wedding, Andie spots Jen and Abby 'crashing' the wedding. She yells at them, and makes them leave. On the way out, Abby grabs an available bottle of champagne and takes it with her outside. Later, Jen and Abby both drink from this bottle; behavior which leads to Abby's death by drowning. It's illegal for a person of any age to carry alcohol from the premises where it is served, outside. It's also highly illegal for minors to drink and take alcohol with them from the same location. In this case, underage drinking led considerably to the death of a minor. Normally the institute that served this alcohol would have been in considerable legal trouble for serving (allowing) alcohol to minors, allowing alcohol to leave the premises and be taken outside, and also providing the alcohol that ultimately led to the drowning death of a minor. Whether the institute responsible was the club hosting the wedding, or Joey's family catering business; either way there would have been serious legal ramifications including the taking away of a liquor license. Yet in the show, none of this ever happened or was mentioned. It's also unreasonable that Andie's character, being very conscientious about rules; wouldn't have seen Abby take the bottle of champagne, and not allowed her out the door with it. Andie would more likely have grabbed it back from her and stated emphatically something to the effect of "it isn't legal to take alcohol out of the premises, and you're underage anyway" since she's such a stickler for doing things by the book. This was obviously overlooked as a plot contrivance, in order to allow the story of Abby's drowning. [I think that you're placing an awful lot of this 'mistake' on Andie noticing the alcohol leaving! I've worked in a bar and people do slip through the loop with a bottle under their coat or in their handbag! I know i've stolen enough glasses from pubs to know that they could have been full a few times. Although it could have been spotted I don't really think that we can really state that its a real mistake.]

Psychic Friends (series 2)

Entry At the beginning of this episode, Dawson and Jen are in their film class. The class was formerly taught by Mr. Gold, but was just taken over by "Miss Kennedy". Dawson and Jen are still sophomores in this second season. But during season one, we learned that Mr. Gold's film class was for juniors only; and he only let Dawson sit in as a 'Study Hall' type situation. So why, only a semester later in their sophomore year, are Dawson and Jen suddenly attending the actual film class as students, when it's supposed to be strictly for juniors only? [It's made pretty clear in the first instance that this was a rule imposed by Mr Gold himself, not the school.]

Uncharted Waters (series 2)

Entry Towards the end of the episode, Pacey is reeling in the big fish. There is a wide shot of the rear of the boat, and everyone is standing there in a bunch. All 5 characters (Dawson, Jack, Pacey, Dawson's Dad and Pacey's Dad) are standing around Pacey as he works hard to catch the fish. So who is driving the boat? Pacey's Dad had been driving, but he came back to help Pacey reel the fish in. No-one else is onboard. But the boat is moving forward at a steady speed. [It's a pretty foolish thing to do, but you can push the throttle forward and walk away, leaving nobody to steer the boat, but still allowing it to move forward. Not a movie mistake, but a pretty reckless character mistake.]

The Kiss (series 2)

Entry When Dawson and Joey run into Jen in the hall at school, Jen mentions that 'she was going to see the day out' but decided to go home early instead. This was obviously early in the day, morning or lunch perhaps. But later when Jen arrives home from school and talks to Grams on the porch; Grams asks Jen 'how was her day' in a very matter-of-fact manner, and doesn't seem at all surprised that Jen has come home much earlier than usual. She acts as if Jen is coming home at her usual time, but this doesn't make sense as Jen is coming home much earlier and Grams should have noticed the difference. [Jen's grandfather had died the day before. It's possible she didn't go straight home from school. Or Grams was simply too emotionally distracted by her husband's passing to notice.]

Neverland (series 3)

Entry When Ethan invites Jack's father to go to dinner with them, Jack's father is about to put a frozen dinner in the oven. He agrees to go out to dinner, and puts the frozen dinner on the counter behind him. This isn't logical, as generally you would put a frozen dinner right back in the freezer if not using it. Otherwise it would thaw out and have to be refrozen. [There are plenty of frozen dinners that let you choose to cook them when they are frozen or thawed, if that is not the case this is just a character mistake.]

Cinderella Story (series 3)

Entry When Pacey goes over to Buzz's house to help him make meat loaf and mashed potatoes, Buzz is completely alone in the house. Buzz has made it clear (and mentions it again during this scene) that he is only 9 years old. Pacey also mentions during the scene that it was a 'good thing Mom had to work late tonight'. There doesn't appear to be a babysitter of any kind around. Legally a child under 12 requires supervision, yet Buzz was home alone when Pacey arrived. [It is not a mistake if a character breaks the law, or uses poor judgment.]

First Encounters of the Close Kind (series 3)

Entry When AJ brings Joey into the Harvard Rare Book And Manuscript Library, he gives her a rare copy of "Little Women". This is the First Volume of the originally published version of "Little Women", and in fact is Louisa May Alcott's own personal copy. So obviously this book is quite valuable. Yet Joey handles the book with her bare hands, albeit carefully. Normally when people handle rare, historic books and papers in a public institute, they are required to use white cotton gloves in order to not damage the materials or get fingerprints, oil etc. on the documents. It wouldn't normally be appropriate for Joey to handle such a rare, valuable publication from a Harvard Library without putting on white cotton gloves first. [Most ordinary people aren't aware of this. Since Joey is neither a librarian nor working in an archive there is nothing to suggest that she would be aware of this fact.]

Home Movies (series 3)

Entry During the closing scene, Joey is seated in a chair watching her TV and the video tape Dawson had given her from their childhood. She would need a VHS Player in order to do this, but you can see that there is none on top of their TV. At that time, most people kept their VHS Players right on top of their televisions. It's possible that the VHS Player could have been located somewhere else in the room; but since Bessie and Joey are poor and live in a trailor/house with limited space, it's highly unlikely they would have an entertainment unit with electronics (including a VHS Player) on another wall. Logically it would make more sense for them to keep it on top of the TV in such a small room. But the TV is shown without a VHS Player on top of it. [I never have had a VCR, or any other component on top of my TV, they have always been under the TV. You don't have to have an expensive entertainment center for this, very cheap stands for TVs are available. They could have it just sitting on the floor, it would still work fine.]

Homecoming (series 3)

Entry When Pacey and Joey go to the Clinic to pick up Andie, Pacey can't get past the clerk. Joey then hops onto the counter, and distracts the clerk by talking to her as Pacey crawls past on the floor to get to Andie's bedroom. So we understand how Pacey made it to Andie's bedroom, but what doesn't make sense is how Joey got there. After talking to the clerk, there is no way Joey could have just walked on up to Andie's bedroom without the clerk preventing her from going there after visiting hours. After all, Pacey couldn't walk up to Andie's bedroom because it was too late in the day, so why would the clerk allow Joey to? And Joey was in full view of the clerk, and therefore wouldn't have been able to sneak past her as Pacey did. [Obviously, the clerk was moved by Joey's history and let her go in.]

All of series 3 (series 3)

Entry Season 3 Ep. 1, "Like A Virgin": Dawson says he could sell his DVD player, and makes it sound as though it is worth $800 to $1,000. Yet whenever they show him bringing home rented movies, they are always VHS format. If Dawson is so into electronics, and ahead of the market with a cutting edge DVD player, why does he only rent VHS movies and his friends only bring over VHS movies to play in his bedroom? Wouldn't he be more excited to use his DVD player, which he never sold? [At that time you could not find any DVD movies to rent at places like Blockbuster, they only had a few, and they where always checked out, and alot of places did not rent them at all. Also most people did not have DVD players at that time, so they would only have tapes to bring over.]

Separation Anxiety (series 4)

Entry Pacey and Joey are talking out on the dock, after they spent the night together. Towards the end of this scene, there is a close-up as Joey takes Pacey's hand and says, "Me too". At this moment you can see the name and location of the boat next to them, painted on the rear of the boat. Although the picture is a bit fuzzy, you can see that it says "Wilmington" under the boat's name, meaning the actual town in NC they are filming in, versus the fictional Capeside, Mass. [A boat does not have to stay where it is registered.]

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (series 4)

Entry During this episode, Jack and Grams supposedly fill out and turn in Jen's college applications. But in reality, this wouldn't be possible because most likely college applications would require Jen's actual signature. [How would a college know what her signature is suppose to look like, what would they compare it to if they wanted to check it?]

You Had Me at Goodbye (series 4)

Entry At the end of the episode, everyone gathers to have dinner with Andie as she tells them of leaving for Italy. Right at the very end-Dawson suddenly happens to have a very sophisticated camera mounted on a tripod for a group 'memory' photo. But when Joey runs into Dawson entering the restaurant before that, he mentions he was invited to have dinner with Andie alone. So was everyone else. Andie didn't announce her goodbye until after they had arrived, and Dawson couldn't have possibly known the other friends would be there as he thought he was having dinner with Andie alone. He also couldn't have known about her leaving Capeside ahead of time-as he only found out when she announced it at the restaurant. Therefore - why would Dawson suddenly have his best photo equipment and tripod on hand for a "group photo" if he thought he was having a private dinner with Andie and had no idea she was leaving, or all the other friends would be there? It makes no sense as the tripod implies he expected to take a "goodbye" group photo for Andie. But to his knowledge - it was just dinner with Andie. [That was at his parents's restaurant, so he could have the camera there for some reason.]

Coming Home (series 4)

Entry When Bessie is questioning Joey about what happened while she and Pacey were on the boat for the summer, Bessie tries to get Joey to tell her whether or not she slept with Pacey by making reference to the fact that Joey left her high and dry last year. Joey left last season (season 3), which was 3 months prior to this episode, not last year. [Bessie says that Joey left her high and dry last June, not last year.]
